How to Create a Virtual Hard Disk Drive in Windows 7

Have you ever wished to have additional hard disk to store files? Or want to have additional capacity for sharing files with others over a network?


One interesting feature provided by Windows 7 is allowing us to create a virtual hard drive that will help us to create virtual drives on your computer or notebook that we have.
Virtual hard disk drive is a virtual storage medium that utilizes the existing physical hard disk on our computer equipment. By utilizing this technology, we can set the virtual hard disk drives without having to disturb others.
This process will create a new drive on your computer without repartitioning or additional hard disk drives which would minimize the risk of losing data from the moment we create additional partitions on your hard disk. Windows 7 will create a file. New VHD that became the content all the files on the virtual hard disk with a minimum size of 3MB.
To get started create a virtual drive, we can start with right click on Computer and select Manage or it could be by typing diskmgmt.msc the search box (Search) in the Start Menu.
Furthermore, will open a new window Computer Management. Click Action and then click Create VHD.
Select the directory where you want to save file.VHD which will store the virtual hard disk drive and specify the size kapasits file from the virtual hard disk. Perform other configurations such as the selection of dynamic virtual hard disk capacity (capacity can be changed automatically according to the contents inside the virtual hard disk) or fixed (fixed capacity and can not be changed automatically).
In the disk management will be seen how much capacity of hard disk space is unused which could be used as a virtual hard disk drives.
To start using the virtual hard disk drive, right click on the disk and select Initialize Disk.
In the Initialize Disk box, select the Master Boot Record and then click OK.
Now is time to create a virtual volume by right-clicking on the unallocated space and select New Simple Volume.
Exit the new window, The New Simple Volume Wizard. Follow the step-by-step steps.
Determine the capacity of hard disk space that will be used for virtual disks.
Select the disc format that will be used, whether to use FAT, FAT32 or NTFS. Check any of the Perform Quick Format and name on the disc.
Click Finish to end all the steps above.
Now you can saw the virtual hard disk drives was in My Computer or in Computer Management.
Virtual Hard Disk Drive is one new feature that will add new functionality in Windows 7. You can use it to simply increase the volume of the drive on your computer that you wear or use it to share files on the network on your premises.
